Deliverymen

It’s almost 3:30 pm. With its harsh 40-degree light, the August sun was nothing to the people wearing blazers and sitting under the air conditioner.

“Hey, order some milk tea!”

A high-pitched voice spoke up, breaking the heavy atmosphere filled with the sound of clicking and keyboard.

That suggestion was not intended for the entire room of six people breathing together in those dozens of square meters of glass. Because the one who asked only turned to speak to the frowning person next to him, and her lips that had just been painted with red lipstick were grumbling and swearing, ten fingers studded with elaborate gems were still moving quickly on the keyboard. But anyway, those two people’s words still reached the rest’s ears. And no one cared.

Hearing that, the invited person’s furrowed eyebrows relaxed a bit.

“Is there any discount coupon?” That person replied coldly, her eyes still not leaving the computer screen.

“Of course. That’s why I asked you. Here it is, up to 40% off.” The young man let out a high-pitched voice.

“But I’m still full after lunch. Not very enthusiastic about ordering.” Her red lips curved up, nearly reaching the pointed nose.

“It’s over 40 degrees Celcius now, and there is a 40% discount voucher. Besides, you only have to spend half the money to get a size L cup; it’s a real big deal.”

“Yeah, that’s a good idea…”

Her red lips stroked the phone as she spoke, and it suddenly rang. Once again, she unnecessarily attracted everyone’s attention:

“Hey, I also have the same voucher! So, should we put it together?”

“Let’s order separately and see who comes first!” The High-pitched Voice spoke again, continuing to destroy the atmosphere that was almost calming down.

“Um… that’s OK.” The one with red lips nodded. Although she didn’t respond enthusiastically, she did not refute either.

“You know, even though I’m in my twenties, I still do quite childish things.” High-pitched Voice continued to move his lips – “Even now, I still keep the switch balanced… Ha ha ha!”

Red Lips and High-pitched Voice slapped each other’s thighs and laughed loudly. A few people quietly put on their headphones.

“OK, let’s start…”

“Hold on, wait a sec.”

“Come on… One… Two… Three!” They both said in unison and then pressed the order button together.

“Let’s see whose things come first… But if that’s all it was, it would be a bit boring, wouldn’t it?” Red Lips smirked and suggested.

“Or let’s bet, if someone’s stuff comes later, that person will have to treat the other. OK?”

“It’s a deal!” Red Lips snapped her fingers, her face triumphant.

Five minutes passed.

“My order is ready to be delivered!” High-pitched Voice spoke again.

“Hey, why haven’t I seen anything yet? Gosh, what the heck are they doing?” Red Lips sitting cross-legged, smirking.

“Just take it slow; I wonder what it will look like when the screen appears when the two drivers are shipping here together?”

“Yeah, it’s probably funny, like racing a car. And we are bettors. Hehe…”

A few more minutes went by.

“Hey, where is your delivery man?”

“Lemme see…”

Red Lips said while stroking the phone screen. They both looked at their phones, competing to see whose “red dot” moved faster. The two sat and commented, laughing together. This new pastime seemed fun.

“More thrilling than an F1 race, right?” Red Lips said proudly again because her “red dot” was moving faster than her opponent’s.

“That’s correct, but my friend, just wait and see!” High-pitched Voice replied.

“Alright.”

“Hey, why is mine stopping?”

“Calm down, they’re probably waiting for the red light.”

“I don’t know…”

“Ding… ding…”

The sound of someone’s notification broke the atmosphere that had only been quiet for a few minutes.

High-pitched Voice waved the notification screen in front of Red Lips, smiling happily:

“My beloved delivery man has arrived! Just transfer the money to me, my dear!”

As soon as he finished speaking, High-pitched Voice ran away, leaving behind Red Lips with a frown and a soft curse:

“Damned! So I’ve wasted money!”

A moment later, High-pitched Voice opened the door and walked in with two cups of milk tea.

“Your delivery man arrived just as I was about to return, so I took it for you. Hey, if you transfer money to me, remember to include my shipping fee right to your seat! He called you just now, didn’t he?”

Red Lips said nothing, only responded with a piercing glare. A few seconds later, she growled:

“Check if my money has just arrived or not! Damn it, what kind of day is today?”

After finishing speaking, Red Lips rated the delivery one star. She aggressively pressed the “Slow delivery” button in the reason section.
