Influence of ICT on education

The world has witnessed far-reaching changes in every field since the past decades thanks to advance in Information and Communication Technology (hereinafter referred to as ICT). Education is no exception, and it is profoundly affected by ICT in both positive and negative way.

In the first place, there are three most favorable impacts that ICT has exerted on education. First of all, it is time-saving to employ ICT in teaching and learning. Currently, there are many online courses available, which directly saves much time for both teachers and learners on commuting. Besides, managing learners and curriculum via online portals is another example of how ICT has brought out salutary impact.

The second beneficial feature of ICT in education is its environment friendliness. With online tools such as Quizlet, Hot Potatoes or Web 2.0 Tools, teachers are able to create digital tasks for both testing and learning activities. Therefore, a huge amount of paper is saved from being used for worksheets.

More importantly, bettering teaching and learning process is the ultimate outcome of ICT in education. Teachers can employ audio or visual aids to make their lessons more engaging and easier for students to learn. The way learners acquire knowledge is altered, and it is much more effective than traditional methods.

In the second place, it is undeniable that there are some adverse influences of ICT on education. Misuse of the Internet for cheating or plagiarism is a typical illustration. Moreover, students’ relying too much on searching ready-made materials without proper dedication is another drawback of ICT.

In short, it is important that ICT should be efficiently utilized and accessible for everyone to make education universal and well-rounded. By this way, its advantageous impacts are fully exploited and the detrimental ones are avoided.
